492 Babies Saved From Abortion After 40 Days For Life Campaign

After the largest campaign in the program’s history, 40 Days For Life is reporting a record 492 babies saved from abortion. The 2017 campaign took place worldwide in 375 locations, uniting churches and individuals with mothers considering abortion. 40 Days for Life is self-described as a “community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families.”

Life News reports that in many cases, the simple act of showing up to pray on the sidewalk was the most effective means of outreach: “One day we were praying, just praying – not counseling, but just praying,” said Salvador, a campaigner in Greensboro, North Carolina. Salvador says that as they prayed, they saw a young woman park in the clinic’s parking lot for several minutes before finally parking directly in front of the campaigners. “She told me she needed prayers,” Salvador said. “I asked if she was there for an abortion and she said ‘yes,’ so we started praying with her.” After prayer, the volunteers gave the woman information about pregnancy resources in the Greensboro area. “I gave her a brochure,” Salvador said, “and she left!”

At a vigil in Winnipeg, Manitoba, another 40 Days For Life volunteer describes an encounter with a mother seeking an abortion for her daughter. “She said she was against abortion,” Maria, the volunteer said, “but her daughter was in the hospital for an abortion referral. Her daughter had gotten pregnant while in a relationship with an abusive, drug-addicted man.”

Maria asked the mother for her thoughts on adoption, and the mother replied that she was prepared to raise the child herself. “I assured her of our prayers and she went inside,” Maria reported. Only minutes later, the woman left the building and told the volunteers that she was bringing her daughter home. The younger mother was reconsidering her decision, and “the mom was smiling widely,” Maria said. “Praise the Lord!”
