Billboard Urges People To "Skip Church" Because It Is "Fake News"

Dec 01, 2017 by Will Maule

A massive billboard has been erected along the I-25 in Albuquerque that encourages people to miss Church because it is all made up anyway. “Just skip church it’s all fake news," the board declares, with a tagline "Happy Holidays from American Atheists!" Many are outraged by the massive sign, paid for by atheists.org.

“I think it’s terrible because Christmas is almost here for one thing and that’s not the way I wish to celebrate the holidays,” said Connie Lindsay, according to KRQE. "Definitely not fake news," another added.

But those behind the billboard believe they are helping people think critically about their religious beliefs.

“It’s a great way for us to in kind of a lighthearted way start those conversations and get people talking,” argued Nick Fish with American Atheists. “We want people to think critically about all aspects of their life. We want people to think critically about the news that we get from Facebook and social media. They need to think critically about it. They shouldn’t just shut off that part of their brain when they go into a church,” said Fish.
