Jennifer Hudson Says That The Bible Changed Her Life

American singer, Jennifer Hudson, age 36, told The Guardian in a Q&A Saturday that the Bible changed her life.

Jennifer Kate Hudson rose to fame as a finalist on Season 3 of American Idol. She is now a judge in the upcoming season of the U.K.'s popular contest showcasing up-and-coming vocalists "The Voice".

When asked by an interviewer for The Guardian which book changed her life, Hudson responded, "The Bible. I’ve been reading it since I was little and it hasn’t failed me yet."

Growing up, Jennifer Hudson participated in church choirs and still uses music as an expression of her heart to God. As a soul singer, emotional expression is vital to her music. Some artists get that emotion from grief, but Hudson shared in a previous interview with The Guardian that she has always attached meaning to the words she sings, grief or no grief.

"What do they say in church? Sing from your heart, because you are singing to God," the soul singer says. "You know, when I used to sing those solos in Church I would go through every line and ask the director: ‘What does this mean? What are we trying to convey here?’ If you can’t feel the emotion of a song, how do you expect anyone else to? It’s like a testimony in that way.”

Her connection to God has always been a priority for her, especially upon receiving a dreadful call from her sister in 2008. When she was just 26-years-old, Hudson's mother, older brother, and seven-year-old nephew were murdered.

It was the young Jennifer Hudson's mom who taught her to have faith.

"There would be no point in faith if it wasn't tested," Hudson commented. "My mother always told me no matter how negative your life seems to be, you must always look for a positive. That is what I believe a woman of faith should do."

Jennifer Hudson continues to be vocal about faith publically.
