Trump Proclaims January 16 Religious Freedom Day, His Address Is Astonishing

In a beautiful address to our country this morning, President Donald Trump has officially made this day, January 16, 2018, Religious Freedom Day. His address to the U.S. was a powerful and moving reminder of the history of our nation and inspires pride in all Americans.

Trump begins, "Faith is embedded in the history, spirit, and soul of our Nation."

This year marks the 232nd anniversary of the passing of The Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom which states, "all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities." The law, which rode "on the coattails of the American Revolution", was penned by Thomas Jefferson.

This law was a precedent for The First Amendment, which came just five years later in 1791. In Trump's words, The First Amendment "affirms our right to choose and exercise faith without government coercion or reprisal."

Our president has been working hard to prevent violations of this important, even vital, amendment in our country as well as worldwide, which is highlighted in the Executive Order he gave shortly after taking office which protects Americans from "undue Government interference" in their choice of worship.

Trump believes, "No American — whether a nun, nurse, baker, or business owner — should be forced to choose between the tenets of faith or adherence to the law."

Trump continues by addressing our country's core belief in religious freedom on a larger scale, saying, "We will continue to condemn and combat extremism, terrorism, and violence against people of faith, including genocide waged by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria against Yezidis, Christians, and Shia Muslims."

At the end of his address, Trump declares, "Faith breathes life and hope into our world. We must diligently guard, preserve, and cherish this unalienable right."
