Pakistani Prime Minister "Signs Asia Bibi's Death Warrant", Bans Her From Leaving Country Amid Rabid Protests

The Pakistani government has been under sharp criticism ever since it submitted to radical Islamic clerics and placed Christian mother Asia Bibi on its no-fly list in spite of her recent acquittal of charges of blasphemy against Muhammad by the country's Supreme Court. In submitting to the violent terrorists who want Bibi dead, many consider Prime Minister Imran Khan to have washed his hands of her and effectively "signed her death warrant".

Last week, after Bibi was acquitted, Khan urged protesters that they were doing “no service to Islam” by rioting and blocking major highways. Protests continued to swell through the week as thousands of members of the extremist party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan party (TLP) took to the streets, demanding Bibi's head.

As part of their attempt to appease these fanatics, the Pakistani government has also agreed not to interfere with any future appeal against Bibi's acquittal by the Supreme Court.

In his attempt to bring a diplomatic, rather than a forceful end to the protests, Khan, according to Pakistani media, has signed Bibi’s death warrant, while even her attorney has fled the country due to death threats. Pakistani columnist Mosharraf Zaidi tweeted that the agreement was a “historic capitulation.”

If not protected by her government, Bibi will become one of a long line of victims of these extremists, including Punjab Governor Salman Taseer who was brutally murdered by his own bodyguard for speaking out in support of Bibi, and Christian politician and outspoken critic of the blasphemy laws, Shahbaz Bhatti, who was assassinated by the Pakistani Taliban.
