These Young Voters Taught America A Vital Lesson With One Viral Photo

Colton Winters, a high school student from Texas who supported Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, taught his fellow American voters an incredible lesson in a now-viral photo in which he hugged his friend, a Trump supporter, after Tuesday’s midterm elections. “Friendship is always more important than politics," Winters wrote.

“I will not accept hate and division. I choose to find common ground and work with the other side when possible,” Winters said in a follow-up tweet after his original photo was met with extreme responses, both praise and hate. “That is how America was created, and that is what we must continue to do to better our country.”

While many refused to see his message and denounced him for boasting about his friendship with a Trump supporter, there were many more who praised Winters for his kind-hearted tweet, even likening it to the friendship of polar opposite Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader-Ginsburg.

Although Winters said he’s received “thousands” of hateful comments in response to his photo, he is "still smiling."

"Kyle is my bud," Winters said, "and although I don’t agree with all of his views, he’s still my friend that I know has my back."
