Senator Rand Paul Pleads With President Trump to Grant Asylum to Asia Bibi

After being acquitted of blasphemy charges, Christian mother Asia Bibi is still in serious danger in her home country of Pakistan as radical Muslim clerics continue to protest the court decision that freed her and demand her execution. After Bibi was shunned by the United Kingdom's prime minister, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul announced in a tweet that he had pleaded with President Donald Trump to offer asylum to the persecuted woman and her family.

Paul, the Republican son of acclaimed Libertarian congressman Ron Paul, “spoke with ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩ about offering asylum to Asia Bibi.”

"Pakistan must ensure her safety until she is able to depart in the near future,” he added. “This Christian woman has been persecuted enough!”

In spite of previous reports that Bibi had safely fled to the Netherlands, officials clarified that she is currently being held under armed guard at an undisclosed location in Islamabad. Although she was unanimously acquitted by the country's Supreme Court of blasphemy against Muhammad, the Pakistani prime minister made a deal with the terrorist Islamic clerics from the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) party to place the court's ruling under review.

TLP radicals have also filed a petition to identify “errors” in the Supreme Court ruling, and the government has agreed not to obstruct that investigation. If the radicals have their way and Bibi is not granted asylum, she could soon be back in prison or on death row once more.
