Watch: 'Breakthrough' Christian Movie Retells The Incredible Story Of This Family's Miracle

20th Century Fox's latest faith-based film Breakthrough "is based on the inspirational true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds,” according to its trailer description on YouTube. It's based on the incredible true story of John Smith, a boy who fell into the freezing waters of Lake St. Louis in 2015.

Although John was retrieved from the lake, he showed no signs of life for an entire hour. His mother Joyce, who detailed the incident in a best-selling memoir, prayed for her son's survival, and her prayer was answered!

"I've had messages from people in the Philippines, Germany, Sweden saying thank God you're alive and we cannot wait to see this film," John said in an interview with KSDK.

Breakthrough stars Topher Grace, Chrissy Metz, Josh Lucas, and Marcel Ruiz. It's the first faith-based projects executive-produced by NBA pro Steph Curry, according to CBN News, and is directed by Roxann Dawson.

The film is also produced by Devon Franklin, producer of 2016's faith-based hit "Miracles from Heaven." According to Deadline Hollywood, Franklin, a studio executive-turned-preacher, helped the Smiths find a literary agent to develop Joyce's memoir into this heartwarming movie.
