On Saturday, December 1st, the thieves broke into storage units to steal nearly $8,000 in children's items the Greater Bridgeport Christian Fellowship Church collected to donate to the charity.
"This church does such a good job for the community," said Wally Landmesser, who donated over $2,000 worth of toys. "Every year back to school program participates in the community. I'm at a loss for words."
When the church shared the heartbreaking incident on Facebook, the post went viral and made it all the way to Massachusetts business owner Lucas Burnley. "There was a few times when I was growing up that I received toys from Toys for Tots, and so for me, it's always held a kind of special place in my heart," Burnley said, according to WABC.
Burnley took it upon himself to raise a staggering $45,000 to replace what was stolen! Thanks to him, 6,500 children will be blessed two gifts on Christmas.
"This is what Christmas is all about," rejoiced Pastor Eric Torres. "And it's a beautiful thing to see the joy be restored back in Christmas for our children here in our city."
