Rick Warren: "Life On Earth Is Only A Temporary Assignment"

In a new blog, Rick Warren reminds us that we are not in our true spiritual home yet, and that life on earth is merely a temporary assignment. "Knowing this truth should radically alter your values and fix your attention on the things that are eternally important," Warren writes. "As C. S. Lewis observed, 'All that is not eternal is eternally useless.'"

We must be careful not to simply want to store up treasures here on earth and make that our end-goal. See, life will not go on forever in this world. "The abundant life has nothing to do with material abundance," writes Warren. "Faithfulness to God does not guarantee success in a career or even in ministry. Never focus on temporary crowns."

Think of the apostle Paul. He was faithful and true to God's call, but he had an awful time here on earth! Beaten, shipwrecked, rejected, imprisoned and eventually martyred. "Millions of faithful people have been martyred, have lost everything, or have come to the end of life with nothing to show for it. But the end of life is not the end" writes Warren.

Dwell on 2 Corinthians 4:18 today, “For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever” (TEV).

"When life gets tough, when you’re overwhelmed with doubt, or when you wonder if living for Christ is worth the effort, remember that you are not home yet. At death you won’t leave home - you’ll go home."
