Bethlehem Christian Claims Victory In 'Arab Idol'

A Christian from the birth town of Jesus Christ has sung his way to victory in talent show 'Arab Idol.' Yacoub Shaheen is a Palestinian Christian who an active member of Bethlehem's tight community of Christian Assyrians, according to The Washington Post. 

"My pledge and my oath, my blood is Palestinian," he sang. Bethlehem's streets were filled with cheering when the winner was announced. Supporters turned out in their thousands, packing out the city's coffee shops and sheesha cafes.

The final was broadcast on a massive screen in Manger Square, the courtyard behind the Church of the Nativity, which is thought to be the actual site where Jesus was born.
