3 Things The Bible Tells Us About The Return Of Christ

There is much speculation about the return of Jesus. Many have falsely predicted the specific date, whilst others choose not to think about it at all. So how should we approach this eschatological subject wisely? Well, like with any questions we have, we must consult the word of God! So, what does the Bible say about the second coming? Here are three key things.

1. He PROMISED to return.
Jesus promised that one day he would return. He is coming back. There is no getting around this. It is a certainty and is attested to in the scriptures. "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also." (John 14:1-3).

2. We are given a loose timeframe.
Whilst no exact time or date is given, nor known by human beings, the Bible gives us an outline of some key things that must happen before Christ's return. "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14). So, we can view this as a mandate; that we must continue to preach the gospel, to usher in the Kingdom of God! "[Jesus] said to [His disciples], "Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15).

3. We must wait with patience, but must be READY for His return.
The Bible calls us to be patient, promising that Christ will return very soon. ""Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me to give to each one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last" ... He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:12-13, 20).

Indeed, there is a longing within all of us to see "every tear wiped away," and for all to be made right in this ever-darkening world.

Indeed, whilst we must remain in hopeful expectation and patience, we must also be ready! "But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake." (1 Thessalonians 5: 4-6).

Jesus is coming back! May we know the reality of this truth, and seek to follow Him with all our hearts until he arrives. Amen!
