Snoop Dogg Announces He's Working On A Gospel Album That's 'Been On His Heart'

When you thnk of rap icon Snoop Dogg, gospel music is probably not the first genre that comes to mind. The gangster rap has had many run-ins with the law, including drug offences and weapons charges. His long-time gang affiliations have concerned many, as he continues to be seen as the godfather of modern rap.

But now, Snoop is creating a gospel album after saying that it has 'been on his heart' for a while now. "I'm working on a gospel album. It's always been on my heart," he said in an interview on Beats 1 Radio. "I just never got around to it because I always be doing gangsta business and doing this and doing that. But I just feel like it's been on my heart too long."

"I need to do it now."

"Me, Faith Evans, we talked about it heavily, because she feels like she wants to get down with me," he said. "All the people I know from Charlie Wilson to Jeffery Osborne, whoever I want to get down with. [We're going to] make it right."

Snoops recent tracks have given a nod to his desire to move into gospel rap. "We're the gift that keeps on giving praise God we keep on living. BC what you want me to say bow your heads for a second take a moment to pray," he raps in a remixed version of gospel artists Pastor Shirley Ceasar's 1988 song "Hold My Mule."
