John MacArthur: There Is No Such Thing As Being "Gay"

When asked about the issue of homosexuality, and whether or not a gay person will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, theologian and pastor John MacArthur gave a shocking response: there is no such thing as being gay. He believes it is time to stop excusing homosexual sin by just labelling someone 'gay.'

"No-one is gay," asserts MacArthur. "If you mean by that, that it's some hardwiring. No-one is gay. People commit adultery, they commit sins of homosexuality, they lie, they steal, they cheat."

"That's like saying, 'I keep robbing banks, but I'm a robber. I'm a bank robber. What am I gonna do?'"

"That is not an excuse for what you do," argues MacArthur. "Are there certain impulses that lead you in a certain direction? Yes. But one of the deadly aspects of this is to let people define themselves as gay."

"They are not gay any more than an adulterer is hardwired to be forced by his own nature to commit adultery. Those are all behavioural sins that are condemned in scripture."

"We need to cancel that out of the sin list and welcome them into the Kingdom of God."

"We do no service to people who are caught in the vicious sins of homosexuality by letting them define themselves by that sin."

"We need to show love to everyone," declares John. "Particularly, we need to do good to all those who are outside the Kingdom."
