Almost 1 In 20 Dutch People Are Being Executed Via Euthanasia

Some shocking statistics have come out of the Netherlands regarding the increase of Euthanasia. Now, nearly 1 in 20 people are dying due to being euthanized, reports LifeNews. “It looks like patients are now more willing to ask for euthanasia and physicians are more willing to grant it,” said lead author Dr. Agnes van der Heide of Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam in a New England Journal of Medicine report.

With a notable increase in cases of euthanasia, experts argue that physicians are becoming more comfortable with the required procedures. “Doctors become more confident in practising euthanasia and more patients will start asking for it,” said Penney Lewis, co-director of the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics at King’s College London.

Dr. van der Heidi also suggest that the increase in euthanasia deaths for those who are not terminally ill is also a disturbing factor. “When assisted dying is becoming the more normal option at the end of life, there is a risk people will feel more inclined to ask for it,” she said.
