Stephen Colbert: 'God Isn't Stressing Out About Nuclear War'
In his famously witty style, late night chat show presented Stephen Colbert has poked fun at Dr. Robert Jeffress for his controversial comments about how God would back President Trump's plan to fight North Korea in a nuclear war. In a tongue-in-cheek conversation with the Most High, Colbert asks him about the hot topic, to which God replies “Oh yeah! Always on America’s side when it comes to blowing stuff up."
"But that goes against your whole message of peace and forgiveness?" asks Colbert. "I never said that, that was my hippie son," God replies. "One semester at a liberal arts college and all of a sudden it's 'love thy neighbor and quinoa is a super-grain.'"
Jeffress told The Washington Post “that gives the government the authority to do whatever, whether it’s assassination, capital punishment or evil punishment, to quell the actions of evildoers like Kim Jong Un.”
"Jeffress is on sound theological ground here. As Jesus said in the sermon on the mount, 'Blessed are the peacemakers, but just in case, let's nuke the bastards,'" quips Colbert.
