Pastor Insists Teen Library Shooter Had 'Turned His Life Around'

A New Mexico teenager suspected of killing two people and injuring four others in a public library shooting had been searching for "inner peace," says his youth pastor. Nathaniel Jouett, 16, had been attending Living Word Church of God for three months when he went on the rampage.

Pastor David Stevens said that he had contemplated committing suicide but instead looked to God for hope. “Before Christ came into his heart, he was just crying, broken,” said Stevens of the Living Word Church of God in Clovis, according to The Independent. “He said, 'Now I got something to smile about.' We had no indication of anything wrong with him.”

Stevens could not believe it was Nathaniel who committed such a heinous act. “My daughter thought Nathan had been shot,” he said. “So my wife and daughter went downtown to the library, and he had been arrested. He was the shooter.”
